Automation

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

The CADtools Automation system enables you to schedule certain tasks to be run on a nightly basis.

These tasks will only run if the model has actively been changed that day (i.e. someone has done a 'Sync to Central' )

One aim of the Automation system is to remove the need for modellers and technicians to continually be producing model outputs.

The whole design team can just rely on a fresh set of PDF's, Navisworks files, IFC files or similar, being available each morning

Some notes about the nightly automation system.

The system allows you to automate Batch Publish jobs, and the data harvesting for the BIM Dashboard.
In future other tasks will be added, potentially such as running the Autodesk Model Checker, or doing a regular eTransmit

The process runs between 11pm and 7am each night, on a pool of remote servers.

The remote server pools may be one per region (e.g. AMX), or a local one in specific offices (AMX_L-A).
Select the regional pool if a local pool doesn't exist in your office.

A specific user account will need read/write access to the job folder.

oIn the UKMEA and Europe, the account is:  uk.dataharvester

oIn the Americas, the account is:  amx.dataharvester

oIn Australasia the account is:  aus.dataharvester

The process will only run on days where someone changes the model and does a Sync To Central

Automation can only be set-up on files stored on the network.  (Not stored on your C:\ drive)

Output paths for any Batch Publish jobs must also be network locations.

The process will attempt to map any relevant network drives used for linked files (such as J:\ )

The process will open all worksets in the model.  Whilst this may slow down the process, it ensures that any worksets filtered on or off in Views will be available.

The process will create and use a file projectname.ArupAutomation.rvt in the same folder.  This will be deleted upon completion

Changes will not be saved back to your central model

Each night, a status email will be sent to the person who enables Automation for the model
