Requirements for Batch Export

Previous pageReturn to chapter overviewNext page

There are a number of requirements that must be met before the batch exporter can run successfully.

1.The NavisWorks Exporter needs to be installed.

This is an add-on to Revit and usually installed when installing NavisWorks. Otherwise try to run NavisWorks installation again.

2.Keyboard shortcut for NavisWorks needs to be configured for Revit.

To enable the batch exporter to send commands to Revit, you must configure a keyboard shortcut that will invoke the NavisWorks External Tool.

To configure keyboard shortcut for Revit, close Revit, then go to the Program folder where you installed Revit (for example, C:\Program Files\Autodesk Revit Structure 2010\Program)

Look for file named KeyboardShortcuts.txt

Open it in a text editor, and add the following line at the end of file:

  F2 ribbon:"Add_Ins-External Tools-External Tools-Navisworks 2010"

You can restart Revit and check that the F2 shortcut starts the NavisWorks exporter.

Note: The shortcut must be bound to the F2 key.  Later versions of CADtools Revit may allow you to configure this key.

3.NavisWorks export must be configured before hand.

This can be configured the first time by running the NavisWorks Exporter manually. Simply make sure all the export settings are setup as you desire.

Note: This includes making sure the correct output folder is selected.

4.Ensure there are no corresponding NavisWorks files in the output folder.

The exporter will create NWC files in the output folder with the same name as the RVT file. If there is already an NWC file with that name, then the batch export will halt processing or the exporting will be ignored.

5.All Revit files need to be in the same format as the Revit application that you want to use.

Eg. You need to convert Revit 2009 files to 2010 if you want to use Revit 2010.
